How to ship a valuable parcel properly

Leaving an item behind is already a worry for a guest, but when it is a valuable item, it is even worse! To resolve the problem quickly and safely, we recommend express shipping. In France, these shipments generally arrive within 24 to 48 hours, with precise tracking and collection by the carrier. Although this type of shipment is a little more expensive, the parcel is tracked at every stage, which is particularly reassuring for the guest.

Declared-value shipping for high-value items

Another type of shipment to consider for valuable items is declared-value shipping. Used less often, it is recommended when the item is worth a lot. With this type of shipment, you are guaranteed to be reimbursed by the carrier for the declared amount in the event of theft, loss or damage in transit, on presentation of the invoice. There is, however, a cap on the maximum value depending on the country or the carrier. In general, it does not exceed five thousand euros.

Jewellery and precious metals are subject to specific regulations in France: they may only be shipped as declared-value items, and the carrier’s insurance is unfortunately limited to €500. If your guest has left a luxury watch behind, collection in person is the better option.

How to pack a valuable item properly

Valuable items, like fragile items, deserve even more careful packaging than other lost items.

• Use a box as close as possible to the size of the item. If it is too big, the contents tend to move around inside, with a risk of damage. In logistics chains, parcels sometimes fall from several metres!
• Wedge the contents firmly with packing sheets (supplied in PeeK’in packaging). For particularly fragile items such as smartphones, glasses or tablets, do not hesitate to use a padded envelope, which you then wedge inside a box. It is better to be too careful!
